Today our great adventure finally starts after months of planning, fundraising and eagerly anticipating! Our Amazon Expeditioneers flew in from all over the world yesterday, with Cheryl and Maria flying in from Los Angeles after several days sightseeing, Chrissie arriving from Boston, Beth arriving late at night from Napa and Kerrie, who won the long haul prize for flying non-stop from Brisbane-Sydney-San Francisco-Albuquerque!

We were all booked in to the Fairfield Inn, but Cheryl and Maria discovered on arrival that there are more than one in Albuquerque and they ended up in the one across town from the rest of us! They decided to stay in to recuperate after their adventures, so Chrissie, Kerrie, Megan and Meredith caught up for an early dinner at their hotel, with Beth flying in too late to join us.

It is Kerrie's second trip to the US, but the first to New Mexico so we initiated her into the magic of real Mexican cooking with her first fajita!

She loved it, as did our super cute waiter Alex who couldn't believe he'd met someone who'd never eaten a fajita and ran around the restaurant sharing the news!

We headed in for an early night - our big adventure starts today. We'll head out of Albuquerque mid-morning today on our way to Arizona. Our first stop is at the Petroglyph National Park, before heading on to the rim of the Canyon for our first look at our adventure for the next week. That night we'll stay in the town of Chinle before heading out to start our trek the next morning.

We won't have internet access in the Canyon, so this will be the last blog post until we emerge again this coming weekend. It will be an incredible adventure!

So sorry that your DAM friends won't be able to get their daily dose of updates this time, Cheryl & Maria. Look forward to your stories on your return though!

Hi to all you wonderful adventurous people,
Here I am in my pj's still. Looking at my messy house wishing I had boundless energy. There you are having this great adventure. GOOD ON YOU You are truly inspirational. You would think that all americans would know that Cheryl & Maria are very special Aussies and everyone would treat them accordingly. Not so it seems. The Chardonnay afternoon sounds like my sort of scene.
Just tell those rude people who you are and that you deserve special treatment. It can only get better from here. LOTS OF LOVE LIZ
