Amazon Heart Expeditions take groups of intrepid breast cancer survivors on epic treks through some of the most beautiful and challenging wildernesses in the world, from the Southern Alps of New Zealand, to the desert canyons of Arizona.

From April 23 - 27, 2007 our next Expedition will trek through Canyon de Chelly (pronounced “Shay” in the Navajo Nation, Arizona. Widely considered one of the most striking canyons in the Colorado Plateau, its colorful rock layers tell the canyon's story through the millennia. On this trek we explore not only an incredibly beautiful landscape, but also the rich human culture and history of this area.

Beyond the physical challenge of the trek, our group will also journey through time and history with our understanding and appreciation of both the environment and the Navajo culture enhanced by our native guide Winnie, who loves to share her knowledge, traditions, and legends with respectful travelers. During our trip we'll investigate Anasazi ruins, visit Spider Rock, and learn how the Canyon and the Navajo have shaped each other through the centuries.

        Dear Hallie & Logan-
I just got back from the bottom of the canyon where we camped under the stars for four nights. There was not a computer there but I am so happy to see your message now! I saw lots of wild horses just like Spirit and thought of you both! My Navajo guide Winnie grew up in the canyon... she said that whenever she would play hide and seek with her mother, her mama could never find her. I can't wait for the mother's day tea at Miss Judy's and Hallie's birthday!! Please tell your daddy & Nano that I've missed them too and can't wait to see you all. LOVE YOU LOTS, Over the moon and stars and back, see you soon!! Mama (Beth H.)

          Beth,
I'm so glad you have enjoyed your trip and the fellowship. We have had an interesting week. Heavy wet snow and rain on Monday followed by immediate warming. It was 83 today and we will probably have record heat tomorrow. Danielle and friends from Wales are coming for dinner in a few minutes.

Monday I have an appointment to have my left hip checked out. It has been causing me to limp which then sets off pain in both hips. Talk to you latter.

          love, Dad
